King's Maternity Voices Partnership (MVP) is a friendly working group which comprises service users (parents that have given birth at King's or used King's maternity services), midwives, obstetricians and other health professionals, service user advocates and others, with the aim of working together to improve maternity services.
We want you to make suggestions and share your experiences by telling us what we have got right and what we could do to improve maternity services at King’s Denmark Hill.
The Department of Health produced guidelines in 2006 that say there should be an effective maternity services forum, where commissioners, providers and users of maternity services bring together their different perspectives in partnership to plan, monitor and improve local maternity services.
Who can join?
Any woman who has had a baby at King’s or at home in the last five years is welcome to join. You can also email us with feedback that you would like us to share with the maternity team.
If you would like to contact the King's Maternity team directly please email the Head of Midwifery Mary Dehinbo: mdehinbo@nhs.net.
When do you meet?
We meet every 2-3 months. The meeting is advertised on our Facebook page and if you are on our mailing list you will receive an invitation. Since the pandemic, we are running our meetings online via Zoom. Please subscribe below to stay informed.
We are always keen to have current service users as part of the MVP. Subscribe to our mailing list to keep up to date with our meetings and all the work we are doing in the MVP.
We have recently supported the Relax Study which is aimed at reducing anxiety in pregnancy.
Our next meeting will be he face to face Friday 23rd September at 11 a.m-2 p.m at United Reform Church, Love Walk SE5. You can also join on Zoom and the link will be shared in the invite.
VICE-CHAIR
I have been involved with MVPs both locally and nationally for many years, going back to when they were Maternity Service Liaison Committees (MSLCs). I am a former King's service user, having the first of my three children at King's and the other two at home with King's homebirth midwives. I am now a service user advocate through my work as a birth doula and pregnancy yoga teacher. I am committed to ensuring that the Service User voice is represented in all aspects of maternity care through meaningful co-production, feedback, and active input.
CHAIR
I was invited to attend MVP meetings and joined as a service user who had 2 children. As a qualified secondary school teacher, I was always struck by the number of parents who reflected and shared their birth experience when discussing their child’s development and progress. It was at that point, I quickly recognised the importance of a positive birth and the impact it had on their future outcomes.
I am keen to give diverse and seldom heard service users the opportunity to feedback and help shape King’s maternity services in a safe space where co-production and learning from each other.
